Sarcophagus with Shepherd and Sheep

The strigillated pattern on most of the frontal is characteristic of the mid-2nd to early 5th centuries, but I have no more precise information about the dating of this sarcophagus. It was discovered in 1958 behind a baroque altar frontal in the cathedral. Although both the strigillated pattern and the portrayal of shepherds was common in pagan sarcophagi, this sarcophagus's location would suggest that the image was Christian in intent.
